Designing for Designers SeaVees Headquarters Santa Barbara
Southern California sneaker brand, SeaVees, crafts sustainable and timeless designs. The heritage brand was revived upon being discovered in a Tokyo thrift shop in the early 2000s. When the company was looking to design their 8,000sqft headquarters, they brought in Anacapa Architects, a premier Santa Barbara design studio who excels in custom modern architecture and sustainable design.
Anacapa’s self-described mission is to design experiential environments that reimagine the relationship between the built environment and its impact on productivity, well-being, and quality of life. This project offered the unique opportunity to design a tactile environment for fellow creatives, a space where the SeaVees team would feel comfortable and inspired.
This project overcame some interesting challenges, and the resulting space is not only beautifully airy and reflective of the brand’s aesthetic, it is also conducive to focus, creativity and collaboration.
Flexibility and adaptability were a priority for a company with changing needs that has been experiencing both growth and corporate transitions.
The design team was tasked with reworking a historically-significant building while adhering to California’s strict seismic compliance requirements. Pre-existing shear walls were limiting in terms of structural changes that could be carried out without prompting a major seismic overhaul of the building. Furthermore, the team gracefully incorporated accessibility requirements.
The layout of the office offers a variety of types of spaces. Employees can access privacy pods for both solitary work and collaboration, two built-out private offices, two conference rooms, breakout spaces, a kitchen, and a lounge.
At the end of the day, with an iconic brand such as SeaVees, Anacapa zeroed in on the details and thoughtfully reflected their style, culture, and identity. SeaVees believes there’s a sea of possibilities, and with a home-base such as this, we cannot wait to see what they come up with next.
