Southern California sneaker brand, SeaVees, crafts sustainable and timeless designs. The brand was revived after being discovered in a Tokyo thrift shop in the early 2000s. When SeaVees sought to design their 8,000sqft headquarters, they enlisted Anacapa Architects, a leading Santa Barbara studio known for custom modern architecture and sustainable design. Anacapa’s mission is to create experiential environments that transform how the built environment impacts productivity, well-being, and quality of life.
Flexibility and adaptability were priorities for a company with changing needs, which has been experiencing both growth and corporate transitions. As a result, the design team was tasked with reworking a historically significant building, all while adhering to California’s strict seismic compliance requirements. However, pre-existing shear walls posed limitations on structural changes, which could only be carried out without prompting a major seismic overhaul of the building.
his project presented a unique opportunity to design a tactile environment for a team of creatives—one where the SeaVees team could feel both comfortable and inspired. Despite overcoming a series of interesting challenges, the final design not only captures the brand’s aesthetic in a beautifully airy way, but also creates a space that fosters focus, creativity, and collaboration.
The SnapCab pods play a key role in this dynamic environment, seamlessly blending architectural quality with customizable design. In addition, these versatile pods enhance both functionality and visual appeal, featuring black aluminum frames that offer visual contrast, clean lines, and exude coolness. Inside, the white Corning© Gorilla© Glass on the rear wall provides a writable surface that resists ghosting, ensuring long-term usability while also supporting the SeaVees team’s collaborative ethos. Furthermore, the pods’ durable exterior walls are designed to accept room booking technology, adding flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the workspace.
The pods also preserve the sense of openness in the office, allowing the industrial high ceilings with stunning exposed beams to remain a focal point. Whether for private meetings, solo work, or team collaboration, SnapCab pods provide a customizable, high-quality solution that enhances both the functionality and architectural integrity of the space.
The office layout itself offers different types of spaces to suit different work styles. Employees can choose from privacy pods for individual focus or collaboration, two fully-equipped private offices, two conference rooms, multiple breakout spaces, a kitchen, and a lounge—creating a balanced, flexible setting that supports the needs of the SeaVees team.
At the end of the day, with an iconic brand like SeaVees, Anacapa carefully zeroed in on the details, thoughtfully reflecting their style, culture, and identity. As a result, SeaVees believes there’s a sea of possibilities, and with a home base like this, we cannot wait to see what they come up with next.
